Dear Friends:

It is hard to believe that we are now in our 26th year of celebrating the life of our friend Doug Black.  Over the years we have shared many laughs, tears, and have been able to impact the lives of others through the money we have raised for several different causes.  We have helped terminally ill children realize dreams by supporting Make-A-Wish, supported cancer research through the Lance Armstrong Foundation, impacted TJ Sharpe’s life directly as he battled melanoma (he and his family are doing well!), helped veterans and others with disabilities recapture their spirit through Disabled Sports USA, and assisted deserving students go to college through the Doug Black Scholarship at Hackettstown High School. We have done much and impacted the lives of many.  Most importantly we have allowed Doug to continue to touch and changes lives like he did for all of us.  We have the opportunity to continue this legacy again this year with even more of an incentive than ever.

Hackettstown High School

The Doug Black Scholarship at Hackettstown High was established shortly after our dear friend passed away in 1998, and it has been awarded every year since.  The scholarship recognizes a graduating senior who demonstrates the qualities everyone saw in Doug:  a high level of character and integrity, academic achievement, leadership potential, athletic ability, and a great sense of humor.

Scholarship recipients are selected by the faculty and administration with input from the Senior Class--with the winner receiving a $2,500 scholarship to use at any school or $5,000 if they attend Gettysburg College, Doug's alma mater. Through the leadership of Sean O’Reilly, James Anastas, and Maryam Robati-McDonald, we are committed to keeping this one of the largest scholarships awarded at HHS and in continuing this tradition until the day we die.
